Cataract surgery is performed under local anaesthetic, and sees the cataract removed and replaced with an artificial lens called an IntraOcular Lens Implant (IOL). The surgery takes around 15 minutes, with most patients able to return home around two hours later. At Barlborough Hospital, we use monofocal lens IOLs, these are the same lenses used in standard NHS procedures.
